Discovering Obstacles

I have been helping clients discover their fears about fertility, pregnancy and parenthood. It is amazing how we can actually stand in our own way of our deepest desires whether that be having a baby, money or even career. On some level (usually subconsciously) we are afraid of what we want and often don't feel we deserve it.

I was doing a one-on-one yoga therapy session with a fertility client this week and she suddenly felt a sense of hope again. As we explored that further she discovered that is wasn't about her age, it was about her heart. She needed to heal her heart and begin to mother herself before she could mother her child. The heart chakra is an energy center in the chest and middle back that is associated with Love and Acceptance. The ability to give love but also to receive love. Interestingly she was open to receive love but not open to give. This awareness surprised her at first but when we explored it deeper she was afraid to love with her whole heart because that would open her up to more hurt. It was also more about her ability to give love to Self.

Another client this week discovered that she was afraid to get pregnant. There is a powerful law that says - what you fear you will create. Our bodies are responding to our fearful thoughts as perceived real life threats. I read a study about a women who had a deep desire to have a baby but she had a deep fear of getting pregnant. The fear would override her desire and the body's response was to close the fallopian tubes during ovulation. Our bodies don't know the difference between a real life threatening situation and a thought of fear or a perceived threat. The body will respond as if your life depended on it.

As soon as you create awareness about your fears, you can begin to heal them and shift your perspective. Once you discover what your self imposed obstacles are, it is important to stay away from blaming yourself. Instead look at it as a gift to heal a deeper part of you. Practice acceptance "I am where I am and it's ok" "I am afraid and it's ok". Now where do I go from here - no judgment, no blaming, no guilt
I am here, now what can I do to shift this.

This is why I love doing private yoga therapy sessions - we can get right in there and release these obstacles on a mental, emotional and physical level. The healing occurs at the level of the soul. It is transformational and I am grateful to be witness to such incredible miracles.
